Photo courtesy of the Boston Fire DepartmentOn Saturday, April 13th, 2019, the Boston Fire Department solved a propane tank incident at 50 Clapp Street, in the neighborhood of Dorchester.
At approximately 2:15 p.m. the Fire Department deployed a level 2 response to a 1,000-gallon propane tank that had the relief valve activated. The function of a relief valve is to keep a propane tank from rupturing in the unlikely event of excessive pressure buildup.
According to the Department, the tank was shut down, and the Hazardous Materials company with the gas company monitored the tank.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, a level 2 response is determined when an incident can pose an immediate and long-term risk to the environment and public health.
