The Urban Farming Institute of Boston are offering a series of urban farming courses as part of their 2019 Farming Training Program. The idea is to teach Boston residents how to grow their own foods, from the basics to the most advanced methods, with hands-on training.

There will be two courses this year, the first one starting on Thursday, March 28th 2019 and lasting 9 weeks until Thursday May 3rd 2019, from 6PM to 8:30PM. This first classroom course will cover Urban Farming Basics, exploring various aspects of urban farming such as food systems, soil quality, environmental challenges and opportunities, crop planning, organic agriculture, farm-business planning, and engage in dialogue around building strong food systems, and will have a fee of $100 per attendant.

After that course, there will be a second one, hands-on and intensive, lasting for 20 weeks and only available for a select group of candidates after completing the Urban Farming Basics course, starting in June.

Both courses will require the attendance of an info session, open since January 2019 and some February 2019 dates. The upcoming dates are Thursday, February 14th 2019 and Saturday, February 16th 2019, from 6PM-730PM and 11AM-12:30PM respectively. These sessions are mandatory in order to apply for the Farming Basics and the intensive Summer courses.
