VietAID to celebrate the Tết Spring Festival 2019

VietAID Tet 2019

The Vietnamese American Initiative for Development (VietAID) is celebrating the beginning of this new Year of the Pig —according to the Chinese calendar— with the traditional Tết or Vietnamese New Year, one of the most important celebrations in their culture. According to the lunisolar calendar, the Year of the Pig begins on Tuesday, February 5th, though the VietAID is planning their event on the weekend. It is usually celebrated during the last days of January and the beginnings of February depending on the New Moon, and marks the beginning of Spring in their culture, which is why it’s often called Hội xuân or Spring Festival.

Throughout the month of January the Vietnamese community in Boston have been celebrating the new year, with augurs of good fortune, optimism and happiness. Various groups have been preparing their own celebrations, and on Saturday, February 9th 2019, the VietAID will have music and food at their community center for everyone to participate. The celebration will take place from 10AM to 2PM, at 42 Charles Street (Dorchester MA 02122).
