The Boston Police Department reminisced this week about the service of the late Police Officer Frederick W. Bartlett, who died in the line of duty 88 years ago. In the Facebook post, they spoke about the service he gave to the community for over 11 years in the force, which ended on a December 9th of 1930, when he was struck by a motor vehicle while directing traffic at the scene of a fire in the area of Gallivan Blvd. and Washington St. in Dorchester, dying of his injuries the day after.

(Credits: Boston Police Department)There’s a Hero Sign in the area of Gallivan Boulevard, to honor his sacrifice (pictured above). He was 42 years old at the time, and left behind a wife and child. He’s buried at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury, and his name is located on the National Law Enforcement Memorial, Panel 62, West Line 12.
