Rebuilding Together Boston repairs home of 78 year-old Dorchester widow

In mid October, The Massachusetts Mortgage Bankers Foundation (MMBF), in partnership with Rebuilding Together Boston (RTB), helped a 78-year old widow of a disabled veteran living in Dorchester with the renovations and home repairs of her home. The house, located at 3 School Street, demanded the replacement of most of the kitchen cabinets, replacing a non working stove, floor repairs, windows replacements, door and walls replacement and fixing, weatherization and others, totaling nearly 100 volunteers working together at the house. The beneficiary of this contribution is disabled, with diabetes and heart problems, facing difficulties to keep her balance. She had lost money in the past trying to keep her home in optimal conditions due to unscrupulous contractors who have taken advantage of the elderly woman.

Those who are helped by Rebuilding Together Boston aren’t charged by their services, as they’re committed to renovate houses of people who are unable to pay for essential home repairs, as well as non-profit organizations who cannot afford the sort of assistance required to properly operate in their headquarters. They have a website that provides more information and eligibility opportunities, which you can check here. The organization has completed the repairs and renovations of nearly 400 homes so far according to their estimates, working with over 20,000 volunteers since their founding with an aggregate work value of $7MM to date.
