Lucy Stone, early feminist and abolitionist.The Dorchester Historical Society has scheduled a program for next week, where they’ll highlight the role of the Woman Suffrage movement in Massachusetts, and the active role these early activists played in the national struggle for women’s rights. Barbara Berenson, author of Massachusetts in the Woman Suffrage Movement, will be discussing her book and highlight some of the prominent suffrage activists from before the Civil War, such as Lucy Stone, who lived on Boutwell Street and was considered a major voice in the movement. These women later organized the first National Woman’s Rights Convention, held in Worcester in 1850.
The event will be taking place next Sunday, October 14th 2018 from 2PM to 4PM, at the Dorchester Historical Society (195 Boston St, Dorchester, Boston 02125). It’s a free, public event, those who are interested in participating may RSVP here.
