Alberto “AJ” Monteiro was violently killed on September 5th last year, when he was getting a haircut just one mile away from his home, in the neighborhood of Dorchester, in Boston, Massachusetts.
AJ was a student of St. John Paul II Catholic Academy and the Catholic Memorial High School. He was a football athlete since the age of 6 as running back and tight end for the Dorchester Eagles Pop Warner Team, and then, with the Catholic Memorial Knights.
At the time of his death, AJ was a student at Regis College, majoring in Business Management. AJ, a big brother to two siblings, died at 21. He was “quiet, humble, and sweet,” expressed to the Dorchester Post his mother, Arminda Baptista.
In June 2018, Mrs. Baptista partnered with the Saint John Paul II Catholic Academy and created the AJ Monteiro Scholarship Fund, to support the education of Dorchester residents in low income.
For the purpose of promoting peace and unity in the neighborhood, Mrs. Baptista has organized the AJ Community Flag Football Games, in partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dorchester, the Flag Football team, and Dorchester Eagles, to be held at Dorchester’s Roberts Park (56 Dunbar Avenue) from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m on August 25th, 2018.
Mrs. Baptista is actively asking for sponsors to cover some expenses of the event. She can be contacted at (617) 775-4683 or via email at [email protected].
