Dorchester resident Shane Hoban created an online fundraiser to help the family of Weymouth Police officer Michael Chesna, killed on July 15th. Chesna leaves behind a wife and two young children, ages 4 and 9.
“I grew up in a house where family members left there home to serve and protect and put there life on the line every time they go to work. The passing of Officer Chesna hits home for me,” explained Hoban on the fundraising page.
Hoban started the fundraiser on Facebook, and it will have it open for donations until July 29th. The money collected will be delivered to the Weymouth Police Department, to then be given to Chesna’s family.
While on duty at the Town of Weymouth, 42-year-old officer Chesna died from wounds sustained when a suspect, identified as Emmanuel Lopes, allegedly took the officer’s gun and fired following a vehicle crash and a foot chase. An elderly woman, Vera Adams, also died after being hit by stray bullets in a nearby home.
