Mike Ruffino and Anthony Bourdain in “Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations, Boston Episode.Yesterday morning, June 8th, it became known that famous and beloved celebrity chef and traveler Anthony Bourdain had taken his life in a hotel in France, while working on an episode of his ongoing TV series Parts Unknown. Bourdain, of 61 years old, had devoted a good part of his career to unveiling and cherishing diverse cultures and culinary expressions from every corner of the world. His death brought a lot of sadness and concern regarding suicide and depression, a silent disorder afflicting 10.3 million of the US adult population in 2016, according to the National Institute of Mental Health.
Among his many trips across the world, Bourdain made a stop in Boston —specifically Dorchester— back in 2011. Accompanied by Michael “Mike” Ruffino, Anthony visited the Eire Pub for his show Anthony Bourdain’s No Reservations, where they met with one of Ruffino’s former bandmates to reminisce the old, rowdy rock & roll scene of the 70’s in the city while taking shots, drinking stouts and enjoying some of the food of the famous bar.
