Juan Perfetti shared with neighbors and friends during the event – Photo by ERICA MATTISONThere is a new paper in town, it’s not made of paper – only digital – its name is The Dorchester Post, and it’s not your regular newspaper.
On March 17th, this new neighborhood newspaper officially launched in an event at the Home.stead bakery & cafe of Dorchester. The event had the participation of neighbors and friends who talked with the founders of the initiative.
Erica Mattison, a Dorchester neighbor and environmental activist, welcomed and introduced Juan Perfetti, the founder of the Comunicas Foundation.
Photo by LUIS CUEVASPerfetti, a Venezuelan-born journalist and web developer, explained the mission and vision of the organization and how the Dorchester Post will serve the community of Dorchester.
Perfetti said that the Comunicas Foundation is an educational non-profit, non-partisan organization that started in a neighborhood in Venezuela several years ago.
“We are with all neighbors, our efforts are not for the Venezuelan community the Latin American community, or any other specific community, but with all neighbors, regardless of ethnicity, race, religion, or gender. Our vision is that citizens can build a better democracy in their neighborhoods. Our mission is to support that building process to have a better, happier, and fairer global society,” Perfetti remarked in his speech.
Photo credit: YI RONGThe Dorchester Post will focus on the neighborhood and “neighbors narrative,” publishing information from neighbors, community organizations, churches, representatives, and local businesses, Perfetti said.
Dorchester is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Boston, also, more than 30% of the neighbors are foreign-born, according to Boston’s planning and development agency.
The Dorchester Post event was attended by neighbors from Latin America, Vietnam, China, France, and Saudi Arabia.
